Deadline confirmed the studio’s plan to give the audience a fresh take on the box-office smash hit, as it revealed that Sam Wrench, known for his work on Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, is set to direct, with a script by Jonathan A. Abrams, known for his work on Juror No. 2.
“No casting has been set […] There are many singers who could play the singing star and should be a magnet for an exciting cast,” wrote the outlet.
The original The Bodyguard was directed by Mick Jackson and follows Rachel Marron (Houston), a famous singer and actress who starts receiving death threats from a mysterious stalker, so a former Secret Service agent, Frank Farmer (Costner), is hired to protect her.
At the time, the film became the second-highest-grossing film worldwide and made US$411mil at the box office. The soundtrack became the best-selling soundtrack of all time after it sold more than 45 million copies worldwide.
